Donkai is no longer a "coming soon" panel at Ombak KLCC. The mall's official Facebook named it among five outlets that have opened, together with Zaitoun, Ariani, Health Lane Family Pharmacy and SANG Seafood. The unit in the directory is C-03 on the concourse. Donkai's own site still says "Coming soon to Ombak KLCC" and lists only TRX, Bukit Bintang and Pavilion Elite. When those two disagree, the mall post is the one that says the shutters are up.
What the bowl actually is
Donkai is a Japanese hamburg steak rice bowl shop, not a generic donburi stall. The official menu language is handmade patties from grain-fed beef, ground and grilled to order on an iron plate, served over Japanese rice. You pick doneness, medium or well-done, and a sauce. The sauces listed on donkaimalaysia.com are Original, Truffle, Japanese Curry, Tartar and Black Garlic. Set meals refill Japanese rice, miso soup and vegetables without a second charge. Sides named on the same page include wagyu skewers, fried chicken and tempura shrimp.
The format is counter seating around an open kitchen. That is the point of the brand at TRX and Bukit Bintang, and it is why a concourse lot at Ombak makes sense: you can eat alone without booking a 90-minute table upstairs. Other Donkai shops run roughly 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Ombak's mall clock is 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Until the Ombak page is updated, assume the kitchen follows the other branches, not the mall's 10am open.
Halal, and why that matters on this floor
Donkai publishes halal certificates for Bukit Bintang, TRX and Pavilion KL. The Ombak certificate is not on the site yet. If you need the paper for this lot, ask at the counter. The chain's public line is that meat comes from certified suppliers and kitchens are inspected monthly. That is the standard it is selling, not a guess about C-03.
In 2026 Donkai was entered in the Malaysia Book of Records for 288,341 hamburg rice bowls sold in a year. That number is a volume claim, not a quality claim. It does tell you the queues at TRX are not a fluke. Ombak is still at about 30 percent occupancy, per Malay Mail at the 28 August official opening, so C-03 may be quieter than Pavilion Elite for a few weeks. That will not last once the Nintendo floor opens on 12 September. The concourse is the walk from Persiaran KLCC MRT into the atrium. Anyone doing Pokémon will pass the grill.
The rest of that five-outlet wave
The same Facebook post put Zaitoun at C-09, Health Lane at C-01-01 and Ariani on Level 1 lots L1-10 and L1-11. Zaitoun is Middle Eastern baklava, kunafa and Turkish delight, a takeaway stop rather than a sit-down. SANG Seafood at Lot 3-07 already had its own 28 August opening, with 50 percent off the second item that day. Donkai is the one that changes a weekday lunch on the concourse. TheSmartLocal's 21 August walk still listed Donkai and Zaitoun as "set to open soon." That list is now stale.
If you came in August for Oriental Kopi and ZUS and found a lot of hoarding, the concourse is the floor that filled first. C-03 is a hamburg bowl, not another coffee queue. Bring cash or card, expect a wait if you land at 12:30 on a weekday, and do not trust the brand homepage for this address until they add it.
